Safety of Journalists and Death Threats

Last fall in Geneva the UN was working on abolishing capital punishment as punishment for a crime or murder.

Sadly we have capital punishment applied on journalists to silence them. Like what happened against Charlie Hebdo journalists, Veronica Guerin, Daphne Caruana Galizia’ and many others. There is no justification for killing someone for his/her opinion.

Extermination of journalists is the most violent act against freedom of expression.

It’s a powerful and inhuman weapon for censorship to silence dissidents. It is a black mail and a witch hunt.
These men and women are our heroes. Their only crime is that they wanted to report the truth. They wanted to make the world a better place by their reporting.

To stand together in Solidarity for their freedom of expression is key to stop the black mail of journalists. Specially they are in need of the support from their colleagues in the media. Sadly they do not do that.

What happened in the case of Charlie Hebdo? BBC and CNN refused to publish the cause of the crime, photos or the cover page of the Charlie Hebdo edition after the murder.

There is no justification to murder someone for his/her point of view. Black mail and witch hunt lead to journalism without integrity.
